Sheridan College has announced the appointment of Hazel McCallion, the former mayor of Mississauga and namesake of one of Sheridan’s campuses, as its inaugural chancellor. This announcement is a major milestone in the college’s journey towards becoming a university by 2020. Sheridan President Jeff Zabudsky commented that “we can’t imagine a better chancellor [than McCallion] as we blaze a new trail as the first college of applied arts and technology to become a university.” According to Zabudsky, Sheridan would be the first of the Ontario community colleges created in 1967 to become a university. McCallion will be formally installed at the institution prior to the first Convocation ceremony scheduled to take place in June 2016.
