The Université du Québec à Montréal’s Faculty of Education has received over $1.5M from the provincial Department of Education and Advanced Learning to create the Centre de services de formation pour les milieux (CSFM) to address the shortage of elementary school teachers in Montréal. The Centre will partner with school boards to identify training needs for staff that do not hold a teaching certificate, and to provide continuing education for teachers that have obtained a teaching certificate. The Centre will also focus on ways to recognize prior learning within teacher certification models. The first working proposals addressing these three issues are expected to be completed in December.
