The mayor of Edmundston, NB has taken to Twitter to remind international students affected by the changes to Quebec’s Programme de l’expérience québécoise (PEQ) that there are opportunities in Eastern provinces as well. Responding to QC’s decision to restrict access to the PEQ program, Cyrille Simard tweeted, “I would like to remind the #international students of #Quebec who find themselves at an impasse that they can look east, especially to New Brunswick and here in #Edmundston for opportunities. There’s room here for you. #immigration #francophonie #immfr.” In an interview with MTL Blog, Simmard spoke to the motivations behind the post, stating that he “wanted to remind foreign students who ‘feel threatened’ by the direction of immigration reform in Quebec that they are opportunities elsewhere in Canada.”
