The Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies has received $2.25M from the Government of Canada in 2021-22 to expand its Indigenous Practical Nursing Diploma program in rural and remote areas. The program aims to increase the number of Indigenous healthcare professionals and build capacity for culturally appropriate care within Indigenous communities. “The expansion of SIIT’s Indigenous Practical Nursing program to rural and remote locations will provide increased access and opportunity for Indigenous Peoples who wish to enter the healthcare field,” said SIIT President Riel Bellegarde. “Ensuring Indigenous representation is of paramount importance to improving the healthcare system, to confronting existing racism and discrimination, and to ensuring the provision of culturally responsive care.”
