Dr. Philipp Reichert

Dr. Philipp Reichert is the Director, Global Engagement at UBC’s Okanagan campus and a Senior Advisor, Learning and Development with the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE). Originally from Germany, Philipp is an experienced international educator and higher education administrator with extensive experience living, studying, and working internationally. Before joining UBC, he worked at the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) with their International and Executive MBA programs, and prior to that, at The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies (HCSS) in the Netherlands. Philipp holds a doctorate from the University of Calgary where his research and dissertation focused on the internationalization of higher education, specifically the nexus of government policies, institutional programming, and international student career transitions. Philipp received his Master’s degree with honours in International Relations from the University of Leiden in the Netherlands where he was a Nuffic Huygens scholar and also holds his RCIC designation in Canadian immigration law.
Outside of his work at UBC, he is involved in a number of volunteer roles at the local, provincial, national, and international level with the Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE), Association of International Educators (NAFSA), the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA), and as a member of the Central Okanagan Local Immigration Partnership Committee (COLIP) along with involvement in community activities focused on topics of equity, diversity, and inclusion, and welcoming newcomers to the Okanagan Valley. He served as the co-chair of the national Immigration Advisory Committee (IAC) for CBIE and serves on the AIEA Board of Directors. Philipp is often called on as a subject matter expert, frequent facilitator, and presenter to work through national and international challenges. Most recently, Philipp co-designed a series of agent-focused programs for the Government of Saskatchewan (2021/2022). Philipp is also an active member of the Central Okanagan Local Immigration Partnership Committee as well as being involved in various community activities focused on topics related to equity, diversity, and inclusion with a focus on welcoming newcomers to the Okanagan Valley.
Philipp has been recognized for his contributions to the field international education locally, nationally, and internationally. His commitment to supporting his peers was highlighted by the CBIE Board of Director’s decision to award Philipp in 2016 with the CBIE North Star Award for Emerging Leadership in International Education. In September 2020, he received the UBC Staff Award of Excellence for Global Citizenship as a result of his involvement within UBC, the local community, national organizations and governmental agencies. In 2021, he was awarded the Harold Josephson Award from AIEA for his doctoral research and other related work. He is also a recipient of the Top 40 under 40 awards for the Okanagan Valley in 2022 and is currently an AIEA Presidential Fellow (2022/2023).
